The rules section of my PDQ project’s first draft is nearing completion: The rules are just about done and I’ll be starting on the genre & trope analysis for the GM’s advice section in August. In the process I’ve discovered that I have a lot more material than I can cram into the single 6″x9″ book I was planning unless I go with something really thick. I also will have to push back the publication date for the game since I still need to design and write-up the default setting I was planning. After some deliberation (ok, about 5 minutes), I’ve decided to break the material into two releases:
- Kidz will detail the rules for the game as well as provide a detailed analysis of the genre of “comtemporary kid mysteries & adventures.” It will be a complete, self-contained RPG built upon a new version of the PDQ system I’m calling PDQ².
- Providence will detail the fictional, dying mill town of Providence, Colorado around which a plethora of interesting sites and adventures abound. While it will include stats and game information for the Kidz game, it will largely be system agnostic, meaning you can take the book and use it with whatever RPG you like. Best yet, the PDF version of Providence, will be free for anyone who purchases Kidz. In other words, you’ll get two books for the price of one. It will also be available to those not interested in the Kidz game for a very nominal cost. If the response for Providence is good I’ll look into publishing the 2nd town I have in mind which is located along the southern Atlantic region of the US (to take advantage of all those pirate legends!).
Stay tuned for more updates and information on the project.
